Update 19th July 2008
Hello everyone, thought I should write to update you all on how things are going.
Hannah is well and still on the oral chemo, she now weighs enough to have tablets once a day instead of measuring out the liquid which is a lot easier. Her last clinic appointment showed her bloods to be all normal and that she is growing and obviously putting back on all the weight she lost, and more besides!!
She broke up from school on July 11th and finished year 3 and attended most of it which is great. She performed well as part of team Mexico in sports day in the last week of term and managed to dodge the hail, thunder, lightening, rain etc. Hannah and I did manage to run the Race for Life though this year, an event we love to do but which was rained off last year, Hannah ran most of the way and told me I had not done bad considering my age! Bless her.
The football day down in Kent was a huge success and we raised around £700 which is fantastic. Well done to Hannah's Heroes who made it through to the Semi's but lost to the eventual winning team. It was a great day and the weather was kind and thankyou so much to all those who helped organise and support on the day, especially Chris Lock, you are a star, thankyou.
We have our Cricket Day coming up on the 2nd August and I am sure the sun will shine for that again just like last year, see the events pages for more info on that along with the Dragon Boats day in September which should be fantastic fun.
Also Chris Lock, a great supporter of ours, is looking to get together a team to do the Three Peaks this year, if anyone is interested or can offer support to this Event please contact me on claredpalmer@aol.com and I will put you in touch with Chris, any help greatly received. Another wonderful supporter Chris Stav cycled the famous route from John O Groats to Lands End to raise money for our cause. A massive thanks to him too and he really enjoyed it to boot!! Further thanks must go to Glen who jumped out of a plane to support us and raised an amazing amount of money.
To all our wonderful amazing supporters, thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
We are now looking forward to the summer and hope the sun starts to shine soon.
Update 2nd June 2008
Hello, just to let you know Hannah is doing well and is full of beans. She had a fantastic 8th Birthday and says a huge thankyou for all her cards and presents. We took her Ice Skating and she had a sleep over with her school friends, among other exciting things and she now feels very grown up. I think her favourite thing is still swimming!
She is completely over her op now and the port works well when she needs bloods doing.
Some desperately sad news, Alara Curran lost her battle against Neuroblastoma on 17th May. She was diagnosed just prior to Hannah and they spent many hours, days, months bravely battling this evil disease together. No more suffering now Alara, you are with the Angels.
Update April 27th 2008
Hello All
Hannah continues to do well on the oral chemo and is enjoying school and Brownies and the run up to her Birthday, she is determined for it not to be like last year and everything crossed it will be the opposite!!
Just a blip to tell you off, Hannah is now fully recovered. The skin around Hannah's portacath seemed to have gone black and died and to cut a long drawn out story short, the surgeons decided to remove her port and put a new one in. This would be in a different location with a better blood supply to the surrounding skin. So last Thursday off she went to theatre and came back with it under her left arm which she not overly happy about and who can blame her?? She bravely took the plasters off herself and after a few days of being stiff and sore she was back to her old self!
Next clinic appointment was due to be her birthday but as we are going no where near the place on that day we will probably go on the 7th!
Whilst writing I wanted to inform you of the desperately sad news that Samantha Hughes lost her brave fight with NB on 15th April and is now with the Angels, we are sending love to her family.
Thank you for reading and see you soon.
